PENGUINS?!?

Before Jonathon left for home on Sunday, we read Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester about six times straight through. Every time I finished, he said, "Read it again!" Finally, I told him that I thought his Da wanted to leave (although I would have been happy to read it seven hundred more times just then). He looked up at me and considered. "Well," he said, "Maybe he will have to go without me, then." I asked where he would live. After another pause, he answered, "Well, maybe I will have to come to Chicago to live with you."

I'd have taken him in a heartbeat, but instead, I reminded him that he wouldn't get to see his Mama and Da and Michelle very often if he lived in Chicago. Then, his Da came to put him in the car and as soon as they were out the door, I started to cry. I had to wait a few minutes before I could go out to say good-bye.

Sigh.

I miss that little guy something fierce.
